Grace & Jonathan

27th July 2018

A Wedding Invitation

Together with their families, Grace and Jonathan would like to invite you to their wedding at 2.30pm on Friday 27th July 2018, at St Wilfrid's Catholic Church in York.

RSVP

The Ceremony

St Wilfrid's Catholic Church next to York Minster

St Wilfrid's Church, 2:30pm

Children are very welcome to attend the ceremony. We will be taking photographs afterwards and would love to include everyone in a group picture. This will probably be in the nearby Museum Gardens, however please await instructions on the day as this will be dependent on weather and numbers of tourists!

How to get to St Wilfrid's

Simply head to the West Door of York Minster and look for the Dean Court (Best Western Premier) Hotel across the road. You'll see St Wilfrid's just to the left. Please be aware there's another church in this vicinity called St Michael le Belfrey. You're very welcome to attend any wedding happening there but it won't be for Grace and Jonathan!

Unfortunately there is no parking at the church given its city centre location. However it is within 10 minutes walking distance or a very short taxi ride from several car parks and York train station. Note that York is likely to be very busy so we recommend arriving in good time! Please see the Travel & Accommodation info below, or feel free to ask us if you have any specific requirements.

The Reception

Merchant Adventurers Hall

Our Dinner Reception is being held at the Merchant Adventurers' Hall in York. Drinks and canapes will be served from ~5pm and there's some time for further photos in the private gardens of the hall. The meal will be served around 6pm.

The hall is less then 10 minutes away walking from the church or Museum Gardens. Alternatively there are plenty of taxis around and the road outside the church is open if you wish to arrange lifts.

Menu Selection

We have a choice of dishes available, please indicate your preference on your RSVP and do let us know if you have any special requirements.

Option 1

14 hour slow cooked beef feather blade, red wine sauce and crispy bacon

Option 2

Confit duck leg, heritage potato, samphire and broad bean salad with warm bacon dressing

Vegetarian

Wild mushroom and lemon lasagne, roast butternut squash and white truffle veloute

Dessert

Apricot frangipane tart with pistachio custard and lavender honey

The Evening

Cèilidh

Stick on 'yer dancing shoes and join us for a traditional ceilidh dance in the Merchant Adventurers' Hall starting at 8pm. Some evening bites are being provided by Cafe No8 and there's a cash bar in the hall serving until last orders at 11pm. If you fancy a nightcap after this then we'll be heading back to the bar at Hotel Indigo which is very close by.

Getting to the Merchant Adventurers' Hall

Please use the Fossgate entrance to access the hall.

On-street parking is available after 6pm on Fossgate and Piccadilly, however this is first come first served. Please see our travel tips for further info, or feel free to ask us if you have any specific requirements.

Travel & Accommodation

Parking

  • There are plenty of Pay & Display car parks around York's inner ring road, however York is likely to be very busy so we suggest leaving plenty of time to find a space.
  • Note that some car parks including the Park & Ride close around 8pm. The nearest 24 hour car park is Monk Bar.
  • There are digital displays dotted around the ring road to show you where spaces are available.
  • From 6pm you may find a Pay & Display parking space on the roads around the Merchant Adventurers' Hall.

Walking or Taxi

If you are happy walking then this is by far the easiest way to navigate between venues:
  • The train station is 0.4 miles from the church.
  • Museum Gardens (for photos) just just down the road, < 0.2 miles.
  • Reaching the Merchant Adventurers' Hall from Museum Gardens is half a mile through the pedestrianised area of the city.
  • Returning to the train station is ~0.8 miles.
We'll have some printed maps on hand. There are plenty of taxis around, although they take longer as they will need to travel via the ring road rather than directly through the centre.

Hotels

There are many great hotels and B&Bs in York. The following suggestions had availability at the time of writing. If you fancy a treat try: Or for the more budget conscious: York's nightlife centers around Micklegate and George Hudson St, so these areas might be best avoided if you want a quiet night.

Gifts

You being there to share our special day with us is the best gift we could receive. However, some people have expressed a wish to buy us a present to mark the occasion. We do not expect anything, but if anyone wishes to give us a gift then vouchers for B&Q or Ikea would be gratefully received, as we are in the process of buying a new house.
